About the club

Northwestern University Archery Club is a student group that has been running practices since 2013. Anyone at Northwestern can shoot with us, whether or not they have picked up a bow before.

We are recreational. We are not a competitive travel team, and there is nothing to work toward if you do not want to. Most people come to practice, shoot for ninety minutes, and go home having enjoyed themselves.

What we shoot

Our club equipment is barebow recurve — a recurve bow shot without sights or stabilizers. It is a forgiving style to learn on, it rewards consistency over gear, and it is what our coaching is built around. If you own equipment in another style, talk to an exec member.

Who runs practice

Most of our officers are USA Archery-certified Instructors. We also have a coach who attends some of our practices. If it is your first time shooting, one of us will walk you through the basics before you step on the line. If you have shot before, they are still worth asking for a second pair of eyes.

What a practice looks like

Practices run ninety minutes at Blomquist Recreation Center. You check in with an exec member, sign a waiver if you need one, and get a safety briefing if it is your first time. After that it is mostly shooting, with instruction available whenever you need it.
